Research

Finding research opportunities can seem like a difficult task. The OSIG board is here to help students find opportunities to get involved with clinical research. Ultimately, you must be proactive about reaching out and finding opportunities, but the following links provide useful information on how to get involved and who to contact.

SOAR - An Einstein organized experience of mentor guided research. A great opportunity to work closely with a mentor in a field of interest throughout your time at Einstein. SOAR is open to all first year students and applications are due December 1st of first year.

Einstein Research Profileslink to Orthopaedic Surgeons within the Einstein network that are conducting research. Includes previous publications, areas of interest, and physicians with a similar research focus.

Clinical Looking Glass  - link to the Clinical Looking Glass (CLG) requirements. Clinical Looking Glass is an extensive patient database that provides access to a large amount of data that is used for many studies in the Orthopaedic Surgery department. After finding a mentor, students should discuss if CLG will be needed for their studies. Approval forms, CITI course completion (see below), and CLG training are required to gain access.

CITI Program - a subscription service providing research ethics education to all members of the research community. Even if you are not currently doing research involving human or animal subjects, it it always a good idea to spend time to get this certification, as most of the IRB- or IACUC-approved studies you want to participate, will require you to take and pass it.

Additional opportunities can be found by searching for summer research fellowships at other hospitals. (Ex: Summer Externship Program at NYU Langone Medical Center, Medical Student Summer Research Fellowship at HSS)
